New West council gives unanimous support to Kiwanis contracted-out care aides
`Stop contracting out’ rally in front of KCC at 4:00 p.m. today as laid-off staff work their last shifts
CARE AIDES from Kiwanis Care Centre in New Westminster — solidly supported by labour and community activists — received unanimous support from the city’s mayor and council last night after their impassioned plea for help to stop the contracting out of seniors’ care at KCC.
After hearing presentations about the devastating impact contracting out has on residents and workers alike, New Westminster City Council unanimously passed a motion to write to the Kiwanis administrator asking for an explanation of the decision to contract out. The letter is to be couriered to the facility this morning.
The laid-off care aides — whose last day of work is today — are holding a rally in front of KCC, 35 Clute Street, beginning at 4:00 p.m. this afternoon.
