Strong women. Strong world.

Celebrating 100 years of sisterhood on March 8, International Women’s Day

2011 is the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day (IWD) and HEU salutes the generations of women who have paved the way for greater equality and a better world.

HEU's IWD adHospital Employees’ Union secretary-business manager Judy Darcy says that the courage, leadership and determination these women displayed remain an inspiration today.

“We can honour the women who have gone before us by continuing to stand up and speak out against all forms of discrimination,” says Darcy.

As B.C.’s largest union of women, HEU is committed to economic and social policies that will end discrimination and further women’s rights.

  • Decent jobs that support families and communities
  • A comprehensive poverty reduction program
  • An end to violence against women
  • Universal, public health care

And “Strong Women. Strong World.” running in three major B.C. newspapers on Tuesday, March 8, states this commitment.

And “Strong Women. Strong World.” is the message on the union’s annual IWD sticker worn this week by members on the job and in their communities throughout the week.
