VIHA urged to repost HCA/care aide positions at RJH and VGH

Despite claims by front-line managers, HEU did not agree to rotations posted earlier this week

The Hospital Employees’ Union says that the Vancouver Island Health Authority has completely mishandled the posting of care aide positions at Royal Jubilee and Victoria General hospitals.

HEU has consistently raised objections to the employers’ proposals for six-day rotations, and the inclusion of days, evenings and nights in the same rotations.

Some front-line managers are falsely claiming that the union developed the posted rotations. These claims are completely untrue and the union has demanded that VIHA clarify these statements.

The health authority’s communications about the new postings earlier this week included inaccurate information and this has caused much anxiety and confusion among HEU members.

The implementation of the new staffing model should be conducted at RJH and VGH with the utmost care and attention. VIHA’s mishandling of care aide postings this week is disappointing and unacceptable.

The union has raised these concerns about the employers’ process and is awaiting their response.
