World Public Services Day
Monday, June 23 is a global day for workers to celebrate and advocate for quality public services.
World Public Services Day is part of Public Services International’s Quality Public Services Now! campaign. In Canada, CUPE marks the day as Communities Day.
The PSI campaign to advocate for a “Robin Hood” tax on international financial transactions is an important counter to the austerity agenda that has gripped countries around the world.
Quality public services support our communities and CUPE members are active, campaigning to defend and expand public services in many ways, including through the Rethink Child Care and Save Our Health Care campaigns.
Another campaign tool is PSI’s Quality Public Services charter. CUPE has signed the charter, which affirms the central role of public services in building fair and equal societies. Everyone who signs it pledges to advocate for the resources to deliver these services.
