Black is the colour of the day at Nanaimo Hospital

HEU condemns government cuts to public services

Today, Hospital Employees' Union members at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, in solidarity with the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union, are dressing in black as visible condemnation of the Campbell Liberals' cuts to the public sector.

"The loss of services and jobs will devastate families and communities," says HEU Nanaimo Hospital chairperson Dan Hingley, who works as a care aide there. "Such orchestrated hardship is unforgivable."

"Nanaimo-area MLAs know that people in rural and resource-based towns and regions like ours will be particularly hard hit by the cuts but our elected officials continue to hold the party line rather than fight for their constituents' best interests."

HEU members in Nanaimo and across B.C. are already working with other unions, community advocacy groups and individuals to turn back the tide of attacks on the public sector.
