Delegates to the 27th biennial convention of the Hospital Employees’ Union have re-elected Ken Robinson as president of the 43,000-member union.

Robinson,a diet technician at Kelowna General Hospital and HEU member for 20 years, was first elected president in 2008. Prior to that, he held several positions on the union’s Provincial Executive.

Donisa Bernardo, a pharmacy technician at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, was acclaimed as HEU’s financial secretary for a third term. Bernardo and Robinson join secretary-business manager Judy Darcy as the three full-time officers of the union.

“HEU members know the importance of a strong public health care system because they experience, first-hand, the needs of patients, residents and clients on a daily basis across the province,” says Robinson.

“They are the workers who deliver services, programs and support functions that are so critical to the health and well-being of British Columbians, and I am proud to serve as their president for a second term.”

More than 600 delegates are attending HEU’s 27th biennial convention at the Westin Bayshore Hotel in Vancouver until October 29.
