Enhanced Disability Management Program

Are you interested in becoming an EDMP Steward? Scroll to the bottom of this page for the Alternates EDMP Expression of Interest.

Your union and employer are committed to supporting your health and well-being.

As part of this commitment, the Enhanced Disability Management Program (EDMP) is designed to help you when you are absent from work, or struggling at work due to an occupational or non-occupational illness or injury. This may include medical, personal, workplace and/or vocational issues.

The EDMP focuses on your quick and safe recovery with a proactive and customized disability management program that helps you to either stay at work or successfully return to work.

Participation is required for all full-time and part-time employees covered by the facilities subsector collective agreement who have:

  • missed one shift due to workplace illness or injury, or
  • missed five consecutive shifts due to a non work-related illness or injury.

Regular employees who are otherwise struggling at work but do not meet the criteria, and casual employees can refer themselves into the program, although services provided may vary.

Your medical information is kept strictly confidential, and is only available to the disability management team working directly on your file. Information is provided to managers and human resources only on a need-to-know basis, limited to the nature of an absence and any functional information relating to a return to work.

The EDMP was jointly negotiated and developed between the Facilities Bargaining Association and the Health Employers Association of BC, and is now part of your collective agreement.

If you have any questions or would like more information about the Enhanced Disability Management Program, please contact your local EDMP steward, your manager/supervisor, or refer to your collective agreement.

Expression of Interest - Alternates to Enhanced Disability Management Program (EDMP) Stewards

The union recognizes that early intervention can contribute to successful long-term recovery and management of illness and injury. To this end, HEU, Health Authorities, Providence Health Care and Affiliate employers have negotiated an Enhanced Disability Management Program (EDMP) for the Facilities Subsector.

The goal of EDMP is to ensure that members who are injured or ill can access supports that assist them in managing their injury or illness in a timely way and/or return to work with appropriate supports and accommodation.

HEU is recruiting members to act as alternate EDMP stewards in the Facilities Bargaining Association (FBA). EDMP stewards will focus on advocating for HEU members and helping them navigate through the program and receive the greatest benefit from it.

Application deadline has been extended to 5:00 p.m. October 3, 2024.
