BCHC News Release: London Drugs brass targeted as Pharmacare campaign goes province-wide

A consumer education campaign urging London Drugs' executives to challenge the B.C. Liberal government's Pharmacare changes goes province-wide this weekend.

Volunteers with the B.C. Health Coalition will leaflet consumers on Saturday, January 11 at four London Drugs locations in Victoria as well as the stores located in Kelowna, Vernon and Kamloops.

In December, the BCHC leafleted selected London Drugs locations in Vancouver. The campaign is designed to educate London Drugs' customers about the influential role the companies top brass play in implementing the B.C. Liberals' health policies.

London Drugs' CEO Wynne Powell chairs the board of the Provincial Health Services Authority which includes Children's and Women's Hospital and the BC Cancer Agency. The BC Health Coalition is asking Mr. Powell to use this influence on behalf of his many customers who are suffering from the Campbell government's ill-conceived policies.

Specifically, the BCHC is asking the London Drugs top brass to:

  • publicly call for a moratorium on any further changes to Pharmacare that raise costs for seniors;
  • insist that seniors, the chronically ill and health care professionals are consulted about proposed changes and their impact on seniors and others; and
  • urge the government to roll back the dispensing fee increases brought in by the Liberal government.
