What can I do about an OHS issue?

If you have a health and safety issue that needs to be addressed, you do not have to solve it on your own. Help is available.

Take action!

  • Tell your supervisor or manager about the issue.
  • Explain the problem.
  • If you have ideas about how to solve it, share them with your supervisor.
  • Ask your supervisor when you can expect the issue to be corrected.

Follow up!

  • Follow up with a hazard report or incident report. Keep a copy for your records.
  • Ask one of your joint occupational health and safety committee (JOHSC) worker representatives to raise the issue at the next JOHSC meeting.
  • Follow up with the JOHSC worker representative to see when and how changes will be made to correct the issue.
  • Connect with an HEU shop steward from your local for guidance or to file a grievance. Review your collective agreement for specific language.
  • If you have followed the steps above and your issue has not been resolved, contact WCB’s confidential prevention line at 604-276-3100 or toll free 1-888-621-7233.
