The Hospital Employees’ Union has donated $10,000 to Khalsa Aid, a non-profit disaster relief organization, to support their emergency response in flood-ravaged Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Ferozepur, and Abohar – located in Punjab (also known as Panjab), India.
In August, thousands of acres of crops and farmland were destroyed when torrential rain caused massive flooding, putting humans and animals at risk.
Countless families and livestock had to be relocated to safety. And more than 500 children were rescued from a school and hostel when the Ravi River breached its banks in Gurdaspur.
As first-responders, Khalsa Aid volunteers have been providing medical care and shelter, and distributing essential supplies like food, drinking water, and clothing.
They’ve also been working with veterinarians to provide care to sick livestock, while coordinating food and shelter for the animals impacted by the floods.
