The Older Persons Standing Committee was established at HEU's 2024 Convention.
With the ongoing affordability crisis, many workers are faced with extending their working lives into their 60s and even 70s in order to make ends meet. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience, yet they face unique challenges in fully participating in the labour movement. They can also face extra challenges when they have intersecting identities including race, Indigeneity, ethnicity, gender, disability, or sexual orientation.
This committee was established to recognize the vast number of older workers and work to enhance access and inclusion for these members within the union.
