Based on direction from delegates to the 2021 and 2022 conventions, the HEU is forming a Housing Working Group to address issues of housing precarity facing members in communities across the province.
HEU is calling for applications from members who are interested in being part of this new working group.
Applications are now closed.
The Working Group will make recommendations to the Provincial Executive on addressing issues of homelessness, affordable housing, and discrimination in housing provision.
The Housing Working Group will:
- identify educational and other resources for HEU members on housing regulations, laws, and issues;
- recommend lobbying and campaign objectives aimed at the federal, provincial and local governments to both build and support the development of safe and affordable housing and to create renter protections; and
- coordinate work with housing and tenant organizations in advocating for affordable housing, enhanced tenant protections, and/or supporting individuals experiencing homelessness.
Membership and meetings
The membership of this working group will consist of six HEU members.
The working group will represent diversity in terms of equity-seeking groups, HEU regions, and occupations. It will include members who have experienced housing precarity and/or who have advocated for affordable housing and tenants’ rights.
Members of this working group will be appointed to the working group until the 2026 convention. Following the 2026 convention, members will be appointed for two-year terms ending at the time of the HEU convention.
This working group will meet up to four times a year.
