CLC Convention

2021 CLC Convention (Virtual)

After a year’s delay due to the pandemic, the 29th Constitutional Convention of the Canadian Labour Congress is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, June 16 to Friday, June 18, 2021, using an interactive, and secure online platform.

The constraints of online meetings will require a more focused convention, with a week’s worth of business concentrated into 12 hours of plenary meetings, spread over three days.

There will also be various equity caucuses held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

Delegates will elect leadership, debate policy, and determine the actions that will set the agenda for Canada’s labour movement.

This June’s convention will be an important opportunity to re-focus the labour movement on grass roots organizing, union solidarity across all sectors and occupations, and strengthening and uniting the voice of working people in our political work.

And of course, that political work includes ensuring a fair and just pandemic recovery for Canadian workers.

We also need the CLC to take a tougher stance on raiding -- a destructive behavior that undermines our solidarity as a labour movement. That’s why the HEU Provincial Executive has unanimously endorsed Beatrice Bruske for CLC President, Lily Chang for CLC Secretary-Treasurer, and Siobhan Vipond as CLC Executive Vice-President.

You can find out more about these candidates on our website.

Please note, this conference will be conducted virtually. It is highly recommended that participants have access to a working computer or tablet with a built-in camera, microphone and an internet connection.

We are opening our application process to all HEU members to ensure that we have a substantial delegation attending the convention. We will, however, give preference to applicants from locals affiliated to their labour council.

Applicants active in their council and community will receive higher priority when being considered as a delegate. The Union will also consider regional balance and the participation of members from equity groups in assembling HEU’s delegation to the CLC Convention.

Please note, as we are allowed a limited number of delegates, not all applicants will be selected, and only successful applicants will be notified.

If you applied last year, before the CLC Convention was rescheduled, there is no need to reapply. But we will contact you by email to confirm that you wish your application to stand.

Application deadline is Friday, April 9, 2021 at 5 p.m.
