The Community Social Services Bargaining Association (CSSBA) has continued negotiations with the Community Social Services Employers’ Association (CSSEA) since the last bargaining update in October. Over the past several weeks, the parties have moved into discussions on monetary matters.
The CSSBA tabled its monetary package earlier this fall, and the employer has now provided their monetary proposals in response. Much has already been done to ensure the collective agreement better meets members’ needs. However, there is still more bargaining ahead before a renewed agreement can be reached.
While active negotiations are underway, full details of the proposals cannot be shared. This is because the best agreements are reached at the bargaining table.
The CSSBA bargaining committee remains entirely focused on member priorities and is committed to doing the hard work needed to achieve gains for all members.
Negotiations are now paused for a year-end break, but bargaining dates are already confirmed for mid-January.
Public sector update
While CSSBA continues to negotiate a renewed collective agreement, other public-sector tables have also moved forward:
Facilities (FBA): On November 17, the Facilities Bargaining Association (FBA) reached a tentative agreement with the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC). FBA members are now taking part in a ratification process that concludes on December 19.
Community Health (CBA): On November 27, community health workers voted 92.3 per cent in favour of authorizing strike action if needed to secure improvements.
Health Sciences (HSPBA): The Health Sciences Professional Bargaining Association (HSPBA) are moving forward with a strike vote that will conclude by December 17.
Nurses (NBA): Bargaining continues at the Nurses Bargaining Association (NBA).
Workers standing together in solidarity is how real progress is made. The bargaining committee thanks you for your support of all workers and of your bargaining committee.
HEU’s 1,500 CSSBA members are represented on the bargaining team by members David Huespe, Brenda Orencia and Cheryl McLachlan, and staff spokesperson Christina Lloyd-Jones with alternate Shawna Lockhart.
