HEU leaders, activists to pay solidarity call in support of BCGEU members, Friday at 1 p.m., 3030 East Broadway in Vancouver
The Hospital Employees’ Union says the deep cuts to direct government services announced today are reprehensible and will result in the loss of public services that will be harmful to the well-being of all British Columbians.
“We’re deeply concerned about the thousands of lost jobs and the loss of vital services that government employees provide in communities across the province,” says HEU spokesperson Chris Allnutt.
“The loss of 850 full-time positions in the ministries of health will have a devastating impact on our health care system,” says Allnutt. “It means there will be no support, coordination or planning to backstop our most important social program—Medicare.
“British Columbians didn’t elect Gordon Campbell to pillage public services,” says Allnutt. “Today’s announcement is concrete proof that this government lied about its real agenda during last spring’s election, and Campbell’s reckless tax cut policy has jeopardized the health of our economy.
Meanwhile, tomorrow Allnutt along with other HEU leaders ands activists will be paying a solidarity call at 1 p.m. Friday to show support for members of the BCGEU, at that union’s area office located at 3030 East Broadway in Vancouver.
