"When the outbreak first happened, there wasn’t enough communication coming our way, so I created a group chat with all of the workers at our site.
It allowed us to communicate, to rally everyone together, and to stay motivated to pull through this. We need to stick together so that everybody knows what’s going on. I think that helped a lot of people in the beginning.
In this chat group, we had some of our members, who tested positive for COVID-19, talking about it with us. If someone needed some cleaning products or fruits and veggies, someone could just drop that stuff off at the front door or on the porch.
Right now, during COVID, we are all on lockdown, so a lot of seniors are feeling pretty antsy. I like to just take people out of their rooms, and roam around the hallways one at a time, so at least they can get out and look at a different window for once.
I think a lot of people have heard about people abandoning their jobs in Quebec, so I want people to know something. Every time that we knew a resident was passing, we were there. We did not let anyone pass alone. We held their hands and stroked their hair, washed their face, and made sure they were comfortable. We stayed until that person passed.
I work with such amazing people. I couldn’t do this job without them. It gives me hope to know that if anything happens in the future, we can get through it together."
