City Councillor, physicians, women’s rights advocates speak out

Front-line health care workers at Children’s and Women’s Hospital will raise the alarm about the planned lay off of thousands of women on health care’s front lines at a rally to be held at noon today at the corner of 29th Avenue and Oak Street in Vancouver.

The rally includes speakers such as Vancouver city councillor Ellen Woodsworth, physicians, women’s rights advocates and front-line health care workers Using contract-breaking legislation passed by the B.C. Liberal government, health authorities are set to issue as many as 5,000 pink slips to health care workers by June. About 90 per cent of those workers are women.
