We all know that HEU “takes the cake”. And next month, we’re turning 75. So, it’s time to celebrate our strong, diverse and inclusive union.
The union is encouraging locals to participate in a number of ways:
• hold a local event to celebrate and join the cake-decorating contest;
• share our birthday online by posting photos from your event;
• order special limited-edition T-shirts ($10) from the HEU boutique; and
• join the fun on social media by posting photos of members posing with our anniversary placard.
Information materials were mailed to locals this summer. For more details or to receive “swag” items, contact your HEU servicing representative.
Since HEU Day falls on Sunday, October 13, we’re encouraging locals to hold their 75th anniversary events any time leading up to that historic date, or even afterward.
Knowing how much HEU members love to celebrate with cakes, we’re holding a cake-decorating contest that we’re calling: “HEU takes the Cake!”
To enter the contest, email the following information to <members@heu.org>:
• Up to three photos including one of your local with the cake and one close up of the cake (these photos will be shared on social media).
• A short description of your cake’s design, your theme for the 75th, and the tasty flavour of your delectable treat.
The cake must be decorated by at least one HEU member, if not more (no professionally decorated cakes allowed). Every local, who submits an entry, gets a certificate of participation. Grand prize: $1,000 HEU boutique gift certificate. Five regional prizes: $500 HEU boutique gift certificates. Guest judges will determine the winning locals.
The deadline to enter is October 19 at 5:00 p.m.
We’re inviting members to take part in celebrating HEU on social media by taking photos with our anniversary placard and/or cake, and posting them to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #HEU75 and #HEUTakesTheCake.
